Features

Not the reason to start with Recto, only to become familiar.

Recto isn't your ordinary notes app. It's the place where notes turn into plans. See below which features fulfills the promise to make your notes into plans.

Folder structure

Since the beginning of personal computer use humans are using folders to structure their documents. As this still is a effective way for the human brain Recto uses a folder structure that has the possibility to be reorganised on the go and as your thoughts develop, no set structure, but one that adapts.

Notes

All content is collected in 'Notes', these will hold your content from thoughts in the form of

  1. Text,

  2. Lists,

  3. Tables,

  4. Images,

  5. Links or

  6. Audio files

We're building Recto to hold almost every piece of content possible. To make it as adaptive to your personal workflow.

Add content

We strongly believe that a productivity system only works when the threshold of adding information/content is as easy as possible. When remembering to add a thing to your list is easier than just add it, your system is doomed to fail, so Recto makes it as easy as possible to add content.

So Recto is working cross platform for all Apple users. Whether you are working on your macOS system or on your iOS device. Adding content is as easy as drag and drop, copy and paste or even add content from the share menu on iOS.

Even if you want to add voice notes from your meeting from example, you can do that right from your Apple Watch. If you are using the voice note in this scenario, please make sure all participants are aware of being recorded.

Task center

The notes and the task center form the essence of Recto. That also follows the natural workflow. Focus on a project, which means you dive in a note or a group of notes, depending on your personal preference of categorising.

Task list

As the normal features like formatting in headers and subheaders, as you might expect from a notes app, the second most important function of Recto are the task lists. We've recreated them on this website, so you can have the look and feel of Recto right in your browser.

All tasks are collected in the task center, but that doesn't necessarily creates an efficient overview. What makes the task center very efficient is adding dates to the tasks. Once a date is added it is shown at the top of the task center, for Past Due, Today, This week or Next week.

Agree that scattered tasks are the real problem.

PDF Export

Mostly the notes you create are personal, whether it is for a personal project or a personal note on the project for your work, your assignment, what ever you do.

However some of those times the notes you've taken have taken shape over time and they might be worth sharing. As Recto isn't build for collaborating we've added the 'Note export' function to craft your notes into documents. Whether it is a quick export of the full note, or the need to create a more professional document, with a cover page and table of contents, you can do that right from Recto.

Export comes with multiple options

  1. Include a cover page

  2. Include a table of contents (based on header styles)

  3. One or two column lay-out

  4. Include or exclude the emoji used for the note.

Besides that there are certain other functions added to control your PDF export even further.

1. Images have a caption option in the right click menu of the image (only visible in the PDF export)

  1. You can now set an image to 50% width to have more control over your export

  2. You can enter a personal footer text that fills the first column of the footer, second column is a Recto footer, the third is a page number.
